Lions Earn Eight Quick Wins, Concede at No. 6 Singles by Default
SAINT LEO, Fla. – The eighth-ranked Saint Leo women's tennis team made easy work of Walsh University on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Cavaliers by a score of 8-1 at the Saint Leo Tennis Center. The lions advance their mark to 4-3 on the season, while Walsh drops to 2-2.
The Lions dropped their only decision at No. 6 singles, handing the victory to Walsh in a win by default. Saint Leo opened doubles action with Anastasia Wagner and Paula Montoya defeating Sofya Logunova and Daria Bondareva, 8-0 at No. 1 doubles, while the tandem of Pauline Helgesson and Laura Kemkes took down Alisha Angle and Alona Skobkina 8-0, at the No. 2 spot.
Adrianna Daszkiewicz and Coralie Pesenti sealed the deal at No. 3 doubles, taking down the duo of Anastasiya Dasik and Jaclyn DiDomenico, 8-0 to close out doubles action with the Lions holding onto a 3-0 advantage.
Pesenti picked up a victory at No. 1 singles, winning the first set over Logunova 6-4 before earning the win with Logunova retiring.
Wagner picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 2 flight, taking down Bondareva, while Helgesson picked up a win at the No. 3 slot, 6-1, 6-0.
Montoya defeated Angle at the No. 4 position, 6-4, 6-3, followed by Daszkiewicz picking up a quick 6-0, 6-0 win over Kravitz at No. 5 singles to close out the day.
The Saint Leo women's tennis team returns to action on Friday, March 7, when they host Wayne State (Mich.) at the Saint Leo Tennis Center. Match time is slated for 2 p.m.
