Women’s Tennis Opens Action at ITA South Region Championship

PENSACOLA, Fla. – All four Saint Leo University women's tennis players impressed in the first day of competition in the 2013-14 season as they opened play at the ITA South Region Championship at the University of West Florida on Friday.

All four Lions in singles competition advanced into the Round of 32 as Paula Montoya, Coralie Pesenti, Pauline Helgesson and Anastasia Wagner moved into the next round.

Unfortunately, the Lions could not continue in the championships as each was retired to the consolation round on Saturday.

Most impressive was the doubles tandem of Montoya and Wagner as the duo advanced into the Quarterfinal Round defeating the Rollins pairing of Shannon Etten and Taylor Brown, 8-3.

The Lions other doubles group advanced into the Round of 16 before falling out of competition.

The Lions will return to the court on Saturday as they continue action at the ITA South Region Championship hosted by West Florida.
