SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its final standings of the 2012 season on Wednesday as the Lions' women's tennis program concluded its campaign as the 12th-best team in Division II. The finish is a program best for Saint Leo. Additionally, the Lions ended their campaign tied for fourth in-region, finishing just behind SSC foes Lynn and Barry.
The women, who finished with a program-record 18 wins, including the first-ever win over Rollins in the NCAA Tournament, moved up two spots from the May 2 poll.
"This year has been a breakout year for the women," said Head Coach James Bryce. "It was exciting to watch them develop and grow as a team throughout the year. We had some great wins over good teams and a first in program history as well. With most of the lineup returning, plus our incoming additions, we are all excited to see what 2012-13 has in store."
Individually, Laura Kemkes, an All-Sunshine State Conference First Team member and CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's At-Large selection, concluded the year as the nation's 14th-ranked, and region's fourth-ranked singles player, while Emily Singleton and Adrianna Daszkiewicz ended play 16th and 19th in regional singles play, respectively.
The doubles tandem of Emily Singleton and Kemkes, an All-SSC First Team duo, finished the year ranked 12th in the country and third in the region.
Complete men's rankings will be released in the coming days.
