SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No.15-ranked Saint Leo women's tennis team (15-4, 4-3 SSC) tied the 2011 team's win total of 15, as they defeated Sunshine State Conference foe Tampa (6-9, 0-7 SSC), 7-2, Wednesday afternoon from the Saint Leo Tennis Center.
"The ladies came out today and took care of business," said Head Coach James Bryce. "We got off to a good start at doubles and kept it rolling through singles. We need to stay aggressive as we move through the remainder of the regular season."
The victory is the Lions sixth-straight win.
A 3-0 doubles start ignited the Lions to a strong singles performance where they took four of six matches.
At doubles, the Lions No.2 team of Adrianna Daszkiewicz and Phoebe Di Leo bounced Leslie Raymond and Megan Mancini, 8-2. Saint Leo's No.1 pair of Emily Singleton and Jeanette McDonald echoed their teammates performance as they dropped Hewett and Wladimirski, 8-4.The Lions wrapped up the session as Maria Benkirane and Selma Hidass conquered Gracia and Ryan, 9-8 (6-4).
Saint Leo kept the momentum moving in the singles session as Daszkiewicz and Benkirane locked-up impressive consecutive set wins at No.2 and No.3 singles. Each secured 6-1, 6-0 wins, clinching the match for the Lions.
The Lions will return to action on Tuesday, April 10, when they travel to St. Petersburg, Fla. to challenge SSC foe Eckerd College.
