WINTER PARK, Fla. - Saint Leo sophomore Laura Kemkes has again been selected Sunshine State Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, it was announced Monday by league officials.
Kemkes, a native of Berlin, Germany, amassed a combined 6-0 record at No.1 singles and top-flight doubles in a trio of road victories for the No. 17 Lions last week.
In a 7-2 win at No. 44 North Alabama, she was up 6-1, 2-1 when her match with Victoria Rees was retired. She also collected an 8-5 doubles win with Emily Singleton over the UNA duo of Rees and Natalia Barragan.
In a 7-2 win over Delta State, Kemkes rolled Maria Moya Morales 6-0, 6-1 and joined Singleton for an 8-3 doubles victory over Lisa Jamais and Erin Teivans. In an 8-1 decision over Alabama-Huntsville, she notched a 6-0, 6-1 singles win over Maria Lawton and an 8-0 doubles victory with Singleton over Lawton and Lina Carajal.
Kemkes is one of 27 Saint Leo student-athletes to earn the conference's weekly honor.
