No.17 Women’s Tennis Ends Road Trip with 8-1 Triumph Over UAH

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Saint Leo women's tennis team (8-3) extended its winning streak to three matches as they upended regional foe Alabama-Huntsville, 8-1, Sunday afternoon from the Tiger Tennis Courts on the campus of Stillman College.

Saint Leo unplugged the Chargers in doubles action as used a 3-0 sweep to set the momentum for the remainder of the contest.

The Lions No.8-ranked team of Laura Kemkes and Emily Singleton began the afternoon in dominating fashion as they overturned the Chargers' top pair of Maria Lawton and Lina Carvajal, 8-0.

That momentum carried over to singles play where the Lions took five-of-six singles matches. In fact, Saint Leo's four singles players surrendered a mere two points, including Singleton and Maria Benkirane who posted a pair of straight-set 6-0, 6-0 wins.

The Lions will return to action Wednesday, March 7, when they host Tennessee-Martin at the Saint Leo Tennis Center. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
