Women’s Tennis Routs Eckerd, 9-0

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's tennis team (3-1) continued its hot start to the 2012 season as they shutout the Eckerd College Tritons (0-2), 9-0, in a non-conference showdown, Tuesday afternoon from the Saint Leo Tennis Center.

Collecting their second shutout of the year, the Lions saw a dominant performance as they surrendered just 16 points all match. The Lions registered one shutout on the double side, before taking six consecutive singles matches.

In doubles, the Lions No.12-ranked doubles tandem of Laura Kemkes and Emily Singleton dominated their contest as they dusted the Eckerd duo of Stephanie Jenks and Gipson Hawn, 9-0.

Success continued into singles play as the Lions surrendered just 11 points all afternoon. Singleton highlighted the session with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Hawn at No.2 singles.

Kemkes, Jeanette McDonald, and Adrianna Daszkiewicz conceded one point, while Marie Benkirane and Caroline Ebner added consecutive sets wins.

"We continue to play solid tennis," said head coach James Bryce. "We can't be satisfied, however. We need to keep pushing and expect to play better each time out."

The women return to action on Saturday, February 18, when they challenge No.1-ranked Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla. First serve is set for 2 p.m. from the Perper Tennis Complex.
