SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women’s tennis team (5-11, 0-5 SSC) dropped an 8-1 decision to the No. 15-ranked Florida Southern College Moccasins (12-2, 4-2 SSC), Tuesday afternoon from the Saint Leo Tennis Center.

The Sunshine State Conference showdown didn’t begin to the Lions’ liking, as they dropped their first three singles matches. The Mocs continued to play well-rounded tennis in singles play taking five-of-six matches, as well.

After dropping their first two doubles sets, the Lions No. 3 pair of Chloe Andersson and Tamara Bustard took the Mocs’ tandem of Baertschi and Carns to the brink of defeat. Unfortunately, the Florida Southern duo managed to win the final two points of the set escaping with an 8-6 win.

Florida Southern continued to put wins on the board deep into singles play and eventually claimed the match. Still, it did not deter Bustard at No. 6 singles. The Brunswick, Canada native posted an impressive 6-2, 6-1 straight-sets victory over Carns, giving SLU a hard earned point.

The Lions return to action in one week’s time as they continue their home swing against SSC foe Tampa on Tuesday, March 23. First serve for the conference tilt is set for 3:00 p.m.
