ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The No. 28-ranked Saint Leo women’s tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to the No.46-ranked Flagler College Saints, Sunday afternoon from the Flagler Tennis Center.

In the match, Shaena Keefe was part of both victories for SLU.

In singles action, Keefe quickly jumped ahead of Veronica Figueroa before cruising to a 6-2 victory. Figueroa retired in the second set, giving Saint Leo their first point of the afternoon. Jeanette McDonald played valiantly at No. 1 singles but Chelsi De Cuba held serve in the match, as she raced to a 6-1, 6-3 win.

Despite the match already in hand for the Saints, the Lions No. 1 doubles tandem of McDonald and Keefe refused to lie down to their Flagler counterparts. As both teams exchanged points, the SLU pair mustered the energy in the final few exchanges to down the Saints’ duo, 9-8.

Head Coach James Bryce went on to say, “It is important to learn from these experiences.” He continued by saying, “We will continue to grow as a team and keep pushing forward.”

The Lions return to action for an afternoon tilt with Embry Riddle University on Wednesday, February 10th. The match is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. from the SLU Tennis Center.
