Lindstrom named SSC Freshman of the Year

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo women's swimming freshman Annie Lindstrom was named the Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year following an impressive rookie season for the Lions.

Following her stellar season for the Lions, Lindstrom became the second Saint Leo swimmer to earn Freshman of the Year honors. Nicole Weber was named Freshman of the Year in 2014.

Individually, Lindstrom qualified for the NCAA Division II championships in the 50 Free, 100 Fly, and 100 Free during the 2016-17 season and finished top four in all three at the SSC Championship. At nationals, she finished 16th in the 50 Free, 23rd in the 100 Free, and 27th in the 100 Fly. In relays, the Kristianstad, Sweden product was part of four Saint Leo school records and the Lions' 200 Medley Relay that finished Top-8 at the national championship meet.

At the SSC Championships, Lindstrom finished fourth in the 50 Free with a time of 23.50 and added third-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. She also finished third in the 100 Fly by swimming 55.53 and added another third place mark with a 3:48.56 time in the 400 Medley Relay. She also added a four place finish in the 100 Free, and in her highest finish at the SSC Meet, the freshman was part of the second-place 400 Free Relay squad that swam a time of 3:26.68.
