Women's swimming finished 8th in 200 Medley Relay


BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On the opening day of the 2017 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, Saint Leo women's swimming day was highlighted by an Eighth Place finish in the 200 Medley Relay.

The Lions saw Maftuna Tuhtasinova, Nicole Weber, Natalia Garriock, and Annie Lindstrom team up to earn 22 points for the team score after they finished the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:43.37.

Saint Leo made it into the finals of the 200 Medley Relay as the quartet combined to swim a time of 1:43.13 to put them in position for the final swim.

In the trial race, Annie Lindstrom took 16th with a time of 23.50 in the 50 Free to earn a spot in the Consolation Finals race. She needed a swim off as she tied with Laura Bendfeldt of LIU Post, but Lindstrom won the swim off as she finished with a time of 23.43, while Bendfeldt finished with a time of 23.65. In the Consolation Finals, the freshman swam a time of 23.66 to finish in 16th place and earn one team point. Junior Natalia Garriock finished 18th with her trial time of 23.51.

The Lions return to the pool on Thursday as they look to compete in the 200 Free Relay, the 400 Medley Relay, and Garriock and Lindstrom will race in the 100 Fly. On the men's side, Hunter Bains will tackle the 200 Free race.
