Garriock named SSC Women’s Swimmer of the Week

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University junior Natalia Garriock picked up Sunshine State Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week honors for the second time this season, when she was tabbed for the honor on Monday for her performances over the weekend at the Florida Tech Panther Invitational.

Garriock posted NCAA "B" cut qualification times in a total of five events, including both individual and relay events.

Garriock's 50 Freestyle time of 23.37 was a Saint Leo record, an NCAA "B" cut mark, and was the fastest time in the SSC this season and fourth-fastest in Division II. In the 100 Freestyle, Garriock won the event with a "B" cut time of 50.54, second-fastest in the SSC this season and sixth-fastest in Division II.

Garriock's 100 Butterfly time was 54.76, good enough for a second-place finish with an NCAA "B" cut time. That time is the fastest in the SSC this season, and sixth-fastest in Division II.

In the 200 Free Relay, Garriock helped Saint Leo post a "B" cut time of 1:35.00, posting the fastest time in the SSC this season in the event, and eighth-fastest in Division II. Finally, in the 200 Medley Relay, Garriock helped Saint Leo to a second-place finish with a "B" cut time of 1:44.01 – fastest time in the SSC this season, and fourth-fastest in Division II.

This is the second time this season that Garriock has earned SSC Women's Swimmer of the Week honors, and the fourth time in her career.

"I am happy for Natalia to have matched last season's times and improved her time in the 50 Free," said Paul Mangen, Saint Leo's head men's and women's swimming coach. "Our women's team is at a whole new level and she's been a big part of that improvement. Natalia has worked very hard, like all our women, and she's a great ambassador for our program from this week's past performances."

The Lions will return to the pool for competition on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, when they compete at the University of Tampa Relays.
