Women’s Swimming Thwarted by Nova Southeastern, 170-92

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's swim team battled it out against Nova Southeastern on Saturday afternoon at Marion Bowman Aquatics Center, but fell to the visiting Sharks by a tally of 170-92.
Junior Stephanie Martinez finished the afternoon with two first place finishes, and a third place touch. The Fort Myers, Fla. native crushed the competition in the 1000 Free, touching with a time of 10:43.41, beating her opposition by at least 13 seconds. She went on to take third in the 200 Yard Free, completing the event in 2:03.11, before blowing away her competitors in the 500 Yard Free with a time of 5:16.67.
Bianca Muniz earned second in the 50 and 100 Yard Free with times of 25.59 and 55.45, respectively, and collected a third place time of 29.80 in the 50 Yard Backstroke.
Kaitlyn Hite took home a third place time of 11:04.58 in the 1000 Yard Free. Paula Carvajal came in a narrow second in the 50 Yard Backstroke, touching at the 31.99 mark, just seven-hundredths of a second behind NSU's Ashley Bransford, who finished with a time of 31.92. Carvajal went on to earn third in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, completing the event with a time of 1:11.64.
Chloe Pellican and Allyssa Black finished second and third, respectively, in the 100 Yard Butterfly, finishing with marks of 1:01.87, and 1:01.97. The two swapped spots in the 50 Yard Buttefly, with Black coming in second with a time of 28.09, and Pellican finishing in 28.51 for third.
In the 100 Yard Backstroke, Chantal Bouthillier claimed second place, touching with a time of 1:04.20.
The Lions wrapped up the afternoon with the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, earning second and fourth. The team of Cunio, Carvajal, Bouthillier, and Muniz finished with a time of 1:42.05, while Martinez, Marques, Pellican, and Albanese completed the relay in 1:49.02.
The Lions return to the pool deck on Friday, October 25, when they host Florida Southern. Start time against the Mocs is slated for 4 p.m. at the Marion Bowman Aquatics Center.
