Swimming Completes Day One of SSC Championships
CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's and women's swim teams completed day one of the Sunshine State Conference Championships, Wednesday evening from the Long Center in Clearwater, Fla.
The women concluded the opening session in fourth-place with 54 points, while the men wrapped-up action in fifth-place with 45 points. The opening events included the 1000-Yard Free and 800 Free Relay.
With four events in the books, Nova Southeastern sits atop the women's standings with 131 points. Tampa is second with 84 points. Rollins is third with 58, followed closely by Saint Leo in fourth with 54 points and Florida Southern in fifth with 53. Florida Tech is sixth with one point.
Individually for the Lions, Kaitlyn Hite took home the top time in the 1000 Yard Free as she finished ninth in the event at 10:52.19. Lindsay Albanese (11:02.78) and Kristy Marques (11:03.04) also placed in the event.
On the relay side, the team of Albanese, Sarah Earls, Sarah Thompson, and Katie David took home fifth-place in the 800-Yard Free (8:59.53). On the 'B' side, Hite, Allison Cary, Chloe Pelican and Kristy Marques swam at an impressive 8:11.19 clip.
On the men's side, Nova Southeastern sits in the top spot with 146 points. Florida Southern is second with 67, trailed closely by Tampa with 63. Rollins is fourth with 59 points. Saint Leo sits in the fifth slot with 45 points, and Florida Tech is sixth with 27.
The SSC Swimming Championship will continue with two sessions on Thursday, February 17. Preliminaries in the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, and 50 freestyle will be swam at 10 a.m. Finals for each of those three events will begin at 6 p.m., with the 200 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay also being contested.
