Women’s soccer releases its 2017 slate

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo women's soccer and head coach Mario Rincon unveiled the 2017 slate for the defending Sunshine State Conference Champions.

The 2017 slate features five home games with three in the month of September and two in October. After opening the season out in Memphis, Tennessee with Christian Brothers (Sept. 1) and West Alabama (Sept. 3), Saint Leo returns home to open the home portion against Embry-Riddle with a 7 p.m. kickoff on Sept. 16.

The Lions travel to Palm Beach Atlantic on Sept. 20 before returning home for two straight against Florida Southern (Sept. 23), which will serve as Alumni Day, and Florida Tech (Sept. 30).

Saint Leo will open October in nearby St. Petersburg on the 4th with Eckerd before playing host to Lynn on the 7th. A trip to Hickory, N.C. to tango with the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears pulls the Lions out of Sunshine State Conference play for one game before heading back into SSC competition for the remainder of the season. Returning to SSC play, Saint Leo travels to Fort Lauderdale to take on Nova Southeastern on the 14th.

The Lions will honor their senior on Oct. 18 against Rollins before hitting the road for the end of the regular season with games at Barry (Oct. 21) and Tampa (Oct. 25).

"This is a challenging schedule from start to finish," head coach Mario Rincon stated. "Beyond the schedule, there are plenty of new faces on the team this year hoping to make an impact and a group of returners looking to pick up where we left off. I'm excited to see what we can accomplish in 2017."

The Green and Gold will look to host the SSC tournament for the second consecutive season and make their way to the NCAA Tournament under first-year coaching staff head coach Mario Rincon and assistant coach Aaron Tritch.
