Kabangu lifts women’s soccer to SSC Tournament title game

SAINT LEO, Fla. – No. 10 Saint Leo women's soccer, who is playing as the one seed in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament, defeated No. 25 Rollins, the fourth seed in the tournament, 1-0 in the SSC Women's Soccer Tournament Semifinal game one on Friday, Nov. 4 at University Soccer Field. 

The Lions move on to the SSC championship game on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. at University Soccer Field. Saint Leo tallied 13 shots on Friday night to Rollins' 19. The Lions were awarded seven corners to the Tars' five.

Arielle Kabangu found the back of the net in the eighth minute to put the Lions up 1-0, which went in as the game-winner as the Lions held the Tars off for the remaining 82-minutes.

Megan Charlton picked up her seventh win of the year moving to 7-2-1 on the year after tallying five saves in between the posts. Charlton notched three key saves to keep the game at 1-0 in favor of the Lions.

  • Despite being outshot, the Lions came away with the win after scoring first and protecting the victory.
  • Arielle Kabangu scored her 16th goal of the year and third game-winner of the season.
  • Megan Charlton moves to 7-2-1 on the season after the full 90 minutes in goal. Charlton tallied five saves on 19 Tar shots.

For the Opponent – Rollins

  • Rollins fell to 10-3-3 on the year after the 1-0 setback.
  • The Tars ripped off 19 shots with five on goal.
  • Keeper Kelly Rowswell picked up four saves on 90 minutes played with one goal allowed.   

Saint Leo will take on No. 2-seed Nova Southeastern in the SSC Tournament final on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 1:00 p.m. at University Soccer Field.
