Women’s soccer climbs to #10 in NSCAA Coaches Poll

SAINT LEO, Fla. – After finishing off the regular season with an 11-3-1 record, including a 2-0 win over then-No. 9 Nova Southeastern, the Saint Leo women's soccer team jumped to No. 10 in the latest national rankings from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), on Nov. 1.

The Lions, who ended the regular season on a three-game win streak, were crowned the 2016 Sunshine State Conference Regular Season Champions after posting a 7-1-1 mark in the conference and earned the No. 1 seed in the SSC Tournament. Saint Leo will host two semifinal games along with the championship game set for Nov. 4 and 6, respectively, where the Lions own a 7-1-1 record at home.

Along with jumping to 10th in the national poll, the Lions moved up to first in the South Region rankings put out by the NSCAA. The NCAA rankings are set to be released Wednesday, Nov. 2.

Keeper Megan Charlton was named the SSC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, ending Oct. 30 after posting two shutouts for the Lions in goal. Charlton picked up both wins in the goal while she recorded eight saves on the 24 shots that came towards her. The Kent, Washington native moved to 6-2-1 in goal for the Lions.

Saint Leo will play the winner of No. 4 Rollins/No. 5 Tampa at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4 in a semifinal matchup. The winner of No. 3 Barry/No.6 Florida Tech will face No. 2-seeded Nova Southeastern at 7 p.m. at University Soccer Field. The two remaining winners will face off Sunday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m.
