Charlton named SSC Defensive Player of the Week

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo junior Megan Charlton was named the Sunshine State Conference women's soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career as announced by the league's office Monday.

Charlton led the Lions to a 2-0 record over the past week and helped solidify the SSC Regular Season Championship, the second in program history. Charlton tallied back-to-back shutouts with the first on Oct. 25 over No. 9 Nova Southeastern, 2-0, and the other coming against Palm Beach Atlantic on Oct. 30, 4-0.

In the two wins, Charlton tallied eight saves on 24 shots faced with no goals allowed. The Lions finished up their regular season with an 11-3-1, 7-1-1 SSC record and will host the SSC tournament semifinals and championship games on Nov. 4 and 6 at University Soccer Field.

Charlton has played 814:02 minutes in goal to post a 6-2-1 overall record with two shutouts on the season. 

The Lions will look to the SSC tournament semifinal matchup with the winner of No. 4 Rollins/No. 5 Tampa on Friday, Nov. 4 at 4:30 p.m. at University Soccer Field. Rollins and Tampa square off in Winter Park, Fla. on Tuesday, Nov. 1 to determine who advances to the semifinals.
