Kabangu named SSC Offensive Player of the Week

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo senior Arielle Kabangu has picked up her first Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor for the first time this season, announced by the league's office Monday.

Saint Leo went 2-0 last week in SSC play to remain undefeated in the conference and improved their overall record to 6-1.

Kabangu, who has 10 goals in seven games, has scored two goals in the last two games for a four-goal week total. Kabangu recorded two game-winning goals this past week first at Florida Tech, in Saint Leo's come from behind 3-2 win in Melbourne on Wednesday.

The Lions came from behind once again Saturday to defeat the visiting Barry Buccaneers 2-1 in double-overtime. Kabangu tied the game in the 79th minute and then went on to knock in the game-winner in the 104th minute.

Kabangu is the second-straight Lion to earn the SSC women's soccer Offensive Player of the Week honor, following Natalie Melillo who won the award last week.

The Lions are on the road this week for their next contest on Wednesday, Sept. 28, when they travel to Winter Park, Fla., to face No. 6 Rollins. That game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
