Kabangu's hat trick lifts women's soccer over Eckerd Wednesday

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Arielle Kabangu lifted the Saint Leo women's soccer team over Eckerd 4-1 Wednesday night after recording a hat trick at Saint Leo Soccer Field. The game was scheduled to kick-off at 7 p.m., but with weather delays, it finally got underway at 9 p.m. and finished at 11 p.m. The Lions improve to 3-1 on the season and open up Sunshine State Conference play with a win.

The Lions, who fired off 17 total shots Wednesday night, found the back of the net once in the first half and three times in the second half. Arielle Kabangu led the Lions with three goals one in the first half to get things started and two in the second half. Saint Leo's fourth goal was off the foot of Natalie Melillo, who got a pass from Selena Jaimes and had a one-on-one with the keeper from the right wing and buried the ball near post, past the keeper. Despite Kabangu's three goals, Melillo was credited with the game-winner Wednesday night. 

Eckerd tallied one goal on the night with a first-half goal from Olivia Ross-Johnson to tie things heading into halftime.
