Lions and Panthers End In Second Consecutive Scoreless Draw
SAINT LEO, Fla. – Wednesday's non-conference regional game between the Saint Leo women's soccer team (2-10-2, 1-6-1 SSC) and the visiting Florida Tech Panthers (6-4-3, 2-3-2 SSC) ended in a 0-0 overtime draw, the second 0-0 draw between the two teams this season.
It was a match that started off rather unnerving for the Lions' defense, as they surrendered seven shots and three corner kicks within the first 20 minutes of play. The Panthers controlled the first half of the game as they outshot the Lions 17 shots to two.
Saint Leo freshman goalkeeper Abby Evans was solid in net during that first half and kept the Lions in the game. She posted seven saves and did not allow a goal, despite Florida Tech's vigorous attack. Evans tied her career high with 12 saves.
The second half was evenly played. Both teams played exceptional defense and had equal opportunities, but neither side was able to capitalize on their chances. 90 minutes was not enough time to separate the two teams as the game went into overtime.
Both 10 minute overtime periods saw more of the same equal play, and at the end of 110 minutes of action, the Lions and Panthers left with a 0-0 draw.
The physicality and equal play was imminent throughout the match, as both teams combined for 22 fouls.
The Lions return to action on Saturday Oct 20th for Senior Night to take on Lynn University in their final home game of the regular season.
