Women’s Soccer Falls to Mocs in SSC Duel, 2-0

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's soccer team (2-8-1, 1-5-1 SSC) fell to Sunshine State Conference counterpart Florida Southern (4-5-2, 2-1-1 SSC) by the score of 2-0, Monday afternoon from Barnett Field.

After holding the Mocs scoreless in the opening stanza, Florida Southern proceeded to post goals in the 65th and 74th minutes.  The rival Mocs headed-up their victory by compiling 15 shots and holding an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Lions' goalkeeper Abby Evans, facing seven shots in the first half, kept the pesky Florida Southern bunch off the board for the opening 45 minutes as she made three saves.

Unluckily, Florida Southern broke the scoreless affair in the 65th minute as Kara Moore, recipient of a penalty kick, put the ball past the hands of Evans to put the Mocs up 1-0.

Florida Southern, despite three Lions' shots near target, put the finishing touches on the match with Sarah Goolsby's second goal of the year off a feed from Gianna Conte in the 74th minute.

FSC compiled seven shots-on-goal. Additionally, the two teams combined for 15 fouls.

By the end of regulation Evans had collected five saves, while three seperate Lions registered shots.

The Lions will now travel to Miami Shores, Fla. to challenge the Barry University Buccaneers in a non-conference showdown. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. from Buccaneer Field.
