Lions Edged in Region Tilt with Georgia College, 1-0

MILLEDGEVILLE, Fla. – In their first-ever meeting, the Saint Leo women's soccer team (1-3) fell to region opponent the Georgia College Bobcats (2-2) by the score of 1-0, Sunday afternoon from Bobcat Field.

The Bobcats' Abby Dalton provided the game's lone goal in the 64th minute as Georgia College held the Lions' offensive attack to one shot-on-goal.

Despite being outshot 10-2 in the first half, the Lions' defense kept the pesky Bobcat offense off the board over the first 45 minutes.

Still, Georgia College managed to crack the scoreboard early in the second half as Dalton took possession of the ball inside the box and slid it past the Lions' 'keeper to give the Bobcats a 1-0 advantage. The goal proved to be the difference as Saint Leo could not equalize over the final 25 minutes.

Lions' goalkeeper Abby Evan was peppered with 30 shots, including 11 on-goal, but countered the attack by making a season-high 10 saves.

Georgia College compiled nine corner kicks on the afternoon, while the two teams combined for six fouls.

The Lions will now begin preparations for Sunshine State Conference play as they will travel to Boca Raton, Fla. on Wednesday, September 12 to challenge Lynn in their SSC opener. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. from the McCusker Sports Complex.
