SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo women's soccer head coach Ged O'Connor has been selected to lead the VSI Tampa Flames W-League team for the duration of the summer.
The reigning Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year, O'Connor is taking his proficient knowledge of the game of soccer to the Flames, which houses some of Tampa Bay area top talent.
Although the Flames are in their first year of competition, the W-League, which is associated with the United Soccer League (USL), is the first and longest women's soccer league in North America.
"It is a great honor and opportunity for me to get to work with some of the top talent in the Tampa Bay area, in addition to competing against some of the best players in the region," said O'Connor.
Although not off to the most ideal start, the Brandon, Fla. based team is sure to turn things around behind O'Connor and his band of talented athletes.
"It is a first year program, but the support the team is receiving from the organization is allowing us to be as good as we can be as soon as possible. We are looking forward to the remaining part of the season and moving as high up the league standings as possible."
