Sixth-Ranked Lions Battle Nova Southeastern to 0-0 Draw

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Freshman goalkeeper Laura Carstens made four saves and earned her third shutout of the season, helping the sixth-ranked Saint Leo University women's soccer team to a 0-0 double overtime draw against Nova Southeastern in Ft. Lauderdale, Tuesday evening.

The Lions advance their mark to 10-0-1, and 3-0-1 in Sunshine State Conference action, while the Sharks move to a mark of 7-2-2, and 1-1-2 SSC.

The Green and Gold dictated the pace of the game throughout the first half, leading the initial 45 minutes in shots, 5-0.  But Nova Southeastern rattled off 11 unanswered shots in the second stanza, and rolled through the first overtime period outshooting the Lions 6-1.  Despite the Sharks' 17 shots throughout the final three periods, only four of their blasts were on target, which were easily saved by Carstens.

Ari Foreman led the team in shots, with two, while Sherrie Gessin, Lindsey Gentes, Sam Buterbaugh, and Ashley Acco fired one apiece.

Saint Leo battled through a plethora of adversity throughout the contest, and used their steadfast defense to hold their opponent off the scoreboard.

The Lions return to action on Friday, October 7, when they host 10th-ranked Rollins College.  Kickoff against the Tars is set for 7 p.m. at University Field.  For the latest news, updates, and information on the Saint Leo women's soccer team, visit
