Cassie Barbaresi and the other Lions look to regain control of the Sunshine State Conference in 2011

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Similar to their fellow Lions on the volleyball team, the Saint Leo women's soccer team collected 119 points and is selected to finish fifth according to the Sunshine State Conference Preseason Poll; it was announced Thursday by SSC Commissioner Jay Jones.

Florida Tech has been picked as the preseason favorite to capture the 2011 Sunshine State Conference Women's Soccer Championship as they amassed 187 points and 14 first-place votes.

Missing the postseason for the first time as head coach, Ged O'Connor sees six returning starters from his 2010 group blend with 10 newcomers as the Lions look to refocus.

Despite a five-game winning streak to close the season, the Lions finished the 2010 campaign with a 9-7-1 record and a sixth-place finish in the SSC with a record of 4-3-1.

Tampa, which received 156 points, was selected to finish second and garnered two first-place votes. Nova Southeastern occupied the No. 3 position with 128 points and one first-place nod. Very close behind the Sharks was Rollins, which was predicted to place fourth. The Tars gathered 125 points and the remaining first-place vote.
