SAINT LEO, Fla. – Women’s soccer forward Hannah Beard earned her second National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Scholar All-Region selection in as many years, as she named to the first team it was announced Friday.
Joining her male counterpart, Bruce Cutler, Beard accumulated a 3.68 grade-point-average while majoring in Criminology. Beard was again proved that her skills go beyond the playing field and continues to define what the definition of a student athlete is. Having already been recognized for her outstanding athletic achievements over her senior season, Beard now begins to put the finishing touches on an outstanding career with by demonstrating her abilities to score in the classroom.
For the season, the Liverpool, England native finished the year as the Lions leading scorer with 28 points (12 goals, four assists), in addition to playing in all 16 contests. She yielded one game-winning tally and the leader in total shots and shots on goal.
With her first team nomination, Beard is now eligible for NSCAA Scholar All-America honors.
Also joining Beard on the first team is fellow SSC opponent Meaghan Thomas from Rollins.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his or her career; start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team; be nominated by an institution that is a current NSCAA College Services member; be a junior or above in academic standing at the current institution; be in his or her second year at the current school if he or she is a transfer student; and submit an official copy of a certified transcript.
Those meeting the above criteria will be considered by the committee for one of the Scholar All-America teams. The committee reviews both the academic and athletic accomplishments of the nominees. The NSCAA Scholar Athletes of the Year for men and women are selected by the national selection committee from all levels of the Scholar All-America teams.
