SAINT LEO, Fla. - The Saint Leo University women’s soccer team (15-4-2) cracked the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) top 25 poll, it was announced Wednesday afternoon. It is the final national poll to be released by college coaches this season.
Saint Leo’s late season victories and its historic run in the SSC Tournament, earned the Lions the No. 25 spot in the poll.
During the SSC Tournament the Lions defeated Lynn University 2-1 in overtime and upset both Rollins College and Florida Southern in shootout fashion.
The Rollins College Tars are the only other SSC program to be ranked, entering the poll at No. 6.
The Lions are now set for NCAA Tournament action, as they head to host site Pensacola, Fla. to compete in the top half of the South Region bracket. In the first round the Lions will take on SSC nemesis the Tampa Spartans at 3:30 (EST). The game will be broadcasted live on the Saint Leo Lions AudioCast Network.
