Montevallo, Ala. (September 8, 2006) – Freshman midfielder Sara Macko (Brandon, Fla.) scored her first career goal in the 95th minute to vault the Saint Leo University women’s soccer team (4-0-1, 1-0 SSC) to a 1-0 win over host Montevallo (0-4) Friday night at Varsity Field in Montevallo, Ala..
Macko’s strike gave the Lions their second consecutive overtime triumph in the third straight match that has seen first-year head coach Ged O’Connor and his side play beyond the regulation 90 minutes.
Once again, the Lion defense was strong in front of sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Hudson (Odessa, Fla.), as SLU posted its fourth clean sheet. The Lions limited the Falcons to just one shot on target and have only conceded one goal in over 487 minutes of play thus far in the 2006 campaign.
Saint Leo will remain in Montevallo where the Lions will face the University of North Alabama on Sunday. Opening kick-off for the game is scheduled for noon ET and will be followed by the Saint Leo men versus the Montevallo men at 2:30 p.m. ET.
