Saint Leo, Fla. (September 5, 2006) – The Saint Leo University women’s soccer team (2-0-1) entered the NSCAA/adidas Top-25 National Poll for the first time in program history, as the Lions were ranked 24th in the poll released Tuesday. SLU also moved to No. 3 in the first South Region poll of the 2006 season.

The rankings are the highest ever for the Lions who trail only West Florida and top-ranked SSC foe Tampa in the regional poll. Saint Leo is the second highest ranked team in the region from the Sunshine State Conference, ahead of No. 4 Rollins, No. 5 Nova Southeastern, No. 7 Barry and No. 8 Lynn. UT and SLU are nationally ranked SSC teams.
NSCAA/adidas South Region Poll (Sept. 5, 2006)
The Lions have started the season with three consecutive shutouts, as they have posted 290 consecutive shutout minutes to open their campaign. SLU defeated both Eckerd College and Thomas University before playing to a 0-0 double-overtime draw on the road at No. 6 ranked West Florida on Sunday.
First-year head coach Ged O’Connor and his team will open its Sunshine State Conference schedule on Wednesday, as the Lions will travel to Lakeland, Fla. to face Florida Southern College. Opening kickoff for the match is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Barnett Field.
