Saint Leo, Fla. (August 28, 2006) – Saint Leo University women's soccer goalkeeper Lauren Hudson (So., Odessa, Fla.) was named Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Hudson, a product of Mitchell High School, earned the honor for the first time in her young career after posting back-to-back shutouts in the Lions' opening two games of the 2006 season. She made a total of four saves in 180 scoreless minutes to earn her fourth and fifth career shutouts. The goalkeeper also picked up an assist on the Lions' game-winning goal against Thomas.
"This is a well-deserved honor for Lauren after her performances of the past week," head coach Ged O'Connor said. "She has once again proven herself as one of the best young goalkeepers in the region. Her assist added proof that she has an ability to start our attack from the back and speaks volumes of her distribution skills and accuracy."
The Saint Leo women's soccer team will return to action on Sunday, September 3 against the University of West Florida. Opening kick-off for the game is slated for 1:30 p.m. ET and the match can be heard live on the Internet via the SLU Athletics Audiocast Network.
