Saint Leo, Fla. (October 21, 2006) – The Saint Leo University women’s soccer team  (13-2-1, 6-2 SSC) won for the sixth straight time and posted its third straight shutout in a 1-0 win over Barry University (5-9-3, 2-4-2 SSC) on Saturday at University Field.  The win clinched second-place in the SSC and a first round bye in the upcoming SSC Tournament.

Saint Leo freshman Hannah Beard (Liverpool, England) scored the only goal of the match in the sixth minute on a screaming shot from 23-yards out.  The goal was Beard’s team-leading ninth and fourth game-winning strike of the season.

The Lions set a new program record with their 13th victory and their sixth win in the SSC.  Saint Leo’s defense posted its 11th shutout of the season, while sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Hudson (Odessa, Fla.) made one save for her program-record 10th shutout of the campaign.

The Lions will face the winner of the match between the #3 and #6 seed match on Friday at the University of Tampa.  All pairings and schedules for the SSC Tournament will be released on Sunday following the conclusion of play in the 2006 regular season.
