Melbourne, Fla. (October 18, 2006) – Sophomore midfielder Evelina Viiri (Heby, Sweden) scored the only goal of the game in then 23rd minute, and the Saint Leo defense posted its 10th shutout of the season, as the 18th ranked Lions won 1-0 on the road at Florida Tech (7-4-4, 2-2-3 SSC) on Wednesday.

The win was Saint Leo’s fifth straight and moved the Lions into second-place in the Sunshine State Conference with one match remaining. The victory also helped the Lions tie their program records for most wins in a season (12) and most conference wins (5).

SLU goalkeeper Lauren Hudson (So., Odessa, Fla.) set a new program record for shutouts in a career with her 12th, while she added to the single-season record with her ninth clean sheet of 2006.

The Lions will play their final match of the 2006 regular season on Saturday when Barry University visits for a critical SSC match.  The game will kick off at 2:00 p.m. and a win for the Lions would guarantee a first-round bye in the SSC Tournament and at least a second-place finish in the league.

Saturday’s match will mark Senior Day at University Field, as both Casie Poyssick (Land O’Lakes, Fla.) and Maria DeMaio (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) will be recognized prior to the match.  Fans can tune in for live match commentary on the Internet by visiting Saint LeoLions.com and clicking on the “Listen Live” logo.
