Saint Leo, Fla. (September 29, 2006) – Senior forward Casie Poyssick (Land O’Lakes, Fla.) scored the game-wining goal with 16-seconds remaining in the first overtime period to give the Saint Leo women’s soccer team (8-2-1, 3-2 SSC) a 1-0 victory over conference rival Nova Southeastern (8-1, 2-1 SSC) on Friday night.

Poyssick was on the end of a Sara Macko (Fr., Brandon, Fla.) free kick, which she flicked with a back heel beyond the reach of NSU goalkeeper Nikki Paquette for her 50th career goal.  The striker is the leading goal scorer in program history.

The game was evenly played throughout with neither side having a convincing opportunity on goal.  After 90 minutes, the teams remained scoreless forcing the overtime period.

The Lions outshot the Sharks 15-7, but NSU held a 5-4 edge in shots on target.  SLU goalkeeper Lauren Hudson (So., Odessa, Fla.) made five saves to record her seventh shutout of the season and ninth of her career.

Saint Leo returns to play next Saturday when the Lions will travel to Boca Raton, Fla. for another Sunshine State Conference match at Lynn University.  The game will kick off at 3:00 p.m.
