Seven women's lacrosse student-athletes earn IWLCA honors

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's lacrosse team saw seven individuals earn a place on the 2016 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Zag Sports Division II Academic Honor Roll, as announced by the IWLCA on Friday afternoon.

Seniors Allie Sheftall, Kelly Smigiera, Cassie Miller, and Katie Krause were all honored, and juniors Amanda Coppolo, Caroline Fraser, and Emily Pittenger also claimed a spot on the honor roll.

In order to be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater. 

The Lions led the Sunshine State Conference in honorees with seven, Rollins and Florida Southern each had three student-athletes earn the honor, while Florida Tech had two and Tampa had one.

Earlier this week, Saint Leo was one of 47 Division II institutions recognized by the IWLCA as an Academic Honor Squad. The 2016 honor marked the third year the Lions have received the distinction in the programs five-year history.
