Lions fall 13-3 in regular season finale

Saint Leo, Fla. - The Saint Leo women's lacrosse team ended the regular season on a 13-3 loss to the visiting Florida Tech Panthers on Saturday afternoon.

Despite Saint Leo only recording one less shot than Florida Tech, 25-24, the game went in favor of the visitors. The Lions also won 12 draw controls to the Panthers' six.

Freshman goalkeeper Rebecca Halley broke the school record for saves in a single season, recording 126 saves in her rookie season.

How It Happened 

1H | Florida Tech opened things up scoring the first goal just five minutes into the half to take a quick lead at University Turf Stadium. The Panthers' add two more from the same player to make it a 3-0 lead on the Lions. Senior Jennifer Doyle found a streaking Ross from behind the net and Ross struck it in the back netting to get Saint Leo on the board. A Florida Tech successful free position attempt with 13:09 minutes left in the first pushed the game to a 4-1 lead.  Sara Grenier netted her 100th career goal, 40th this season for the Panthers, then followed with her second with 11:35 minutes left to make it a five-goal gap. Saint Leo scored from a streaking Abbie Ross from behind the goal to cut into the lead. The Panthers scored one more on a fast break goal with 37-seconds left. | Florida Tech 7-2 |

2H | The Panthers came out firing, similar to the first half, scoring two unanswered goals in the first 10 minutes increasing the lead to seven. Saint Leo held strong defensively as Florida Tech was scoreless for 12 minutes. Florida Tech managed to squeeze another one in the low corner net, making the goals total in the double digits, 10-2 in favor of the visitor. Kelsey Burns started an attack as she won a draw control and dished it to Caroline Fraser on the fast break goal to put the third mark on the board for the Lions. The Panthers found the back of the net three more times in the last five minutes to end the Lions season.| Florida Tech 13-3 |

There were six Lions honored for senior day for the last time they will play at University Turf Stadium; Allie Sheftall, Kelly Smigiera, Jennifer Doyle, Lauren Irish, Katie Krause, and Cassie Miller all got the start in honor of their careers.
