Lions fall to #12 Limestone, 9-5

GAFFNEY, S.C. The Saint Leo women's lacrosse team fell, despite a valiant effort, to No. 12 Limestone College on Thursday afternoon at Saints Field, 9-5.

Saint Leo was led by Kelsey Burns, who recorded two goals. Three different Lions added one goal including, Emily Pittenger, Abbie Ross and Katherine Larson. The Green and Gold went 14-14 on clear attempts.

Saint Leo's defense caused nine turnovers, while Rebecca Halley had nine saves in net, and picked up six ground balls.

How It Happened 

1H | Limestone opened up the game with a free-position goal to put the first mark of the half on the board. In response, Larson added an unassisted goal three minutes later to tie the score. The Saints took their lead back by capitalizing on another free-position attempt. Soon after, Burns scored on a free-position attempt of her own to make it two apiece. Effective defensive play on both ends held the game scoreless for 10 minutes until Burns put in another free-position attempt to take the first lead of the game for the Green and Gold. The Saints, keeping the game close, recorded one to make the score even once again before half time. | Saint Leo 3- Limestone 3 |

2H | Once again Limestone scored the first goal of the half off of a free-position attempt to make it a one-goal lead. Just one minute later, Ross found the back of the net for the ninth time this season to tie it up at four. Saint Leo's Kaylah Walstad tossed Pittenger an assist as Pittenger added her first of the game, giving the Lions the lead by one once again. A time-out for the host proved effective as Limestone netted an equalizer with 14:47 left in the game. The Saints then added four unanswered goals to close out the game. | Limestone 9-5 |
