Lions victorious in road battle with Pfeiffer, 13-11

MISENHEIMER, N.C. The Saint Leo women's lacrosse team was victorious over Pfeiffer University on Tuesday night at N.E. Lefko Field in Misenheimer, N.C., taking the game, 13-11.  

Kelsey Burns lead Saint Leo with four goals and one assist, including the last two vital goals to solidify the win for the the Green and Gold. Caroline Fraser, Allie Sheftall and Abbie Ross each scored twice for the Lions, while Katherine Larson, Jennifer Doyle and Kaylah Walstad added one point to contribute to the second victory of the season.

Saint Leo also out-shot the Falcons, 31-23, including 26 shots on goal. The Lions also caused eight turnovers.

How It Happened 

1H | A free-position goal from the Falcons put the first mark on the scoreboard just two minutes into the half. Saint Leo responded as Burns assisted Fraser, and Fraser found the back of the net for the fourth time this season to tie it up. Ross gave the Lions their first lead of the game after taking a pass from Maddie Ozog to tally the score. Two minutes later an unassisted Pfeiffer goal evened out the score once again. Saint Leo called a timeout with 19:06 on the clock, and it proved effective as Fraser helped the Lions take the lead back with an unassisted goal, her second of the evening. The Falcons add two more free-position goals to keep the back-and-forth play alive, taking the lead once again at 4-3. The Green and Gold would not let the game get away from them, going on a 3-0 run with one from Burns and two from Sheftall, to get the first two-goal lead of the game. 2H | Walstad started off the second half with a man-up, unassisted goal, which was followed by a Pfeiffer goal to keep the game within one for the host. Doyle and Burns each added goals, giving the Lions a 9-6 lead, causing the Falcons to retaliate. Pfeiffer added two themselves to cut the lead back one. A free-position goal by Larson halted the hosts run for a moment, before Pfeiffer added two more, tying the game. Burns netted two crucial goals to give the Green and Gold a two-goal lead with 11:43 left in the game. Pfeiffer added another, cutting the lead back to one, but a goal by Ross prevented the comeback, giving the Lions the victory. | Saint Leo 13-11 |
