Lions drop road game at Belmont Abbey, 9-6
BELMONT, N.C. – The Saint Leo women's lacrosse team dropped its second game of the season to Belmont Abbey, 9-6, on Tuesday night at Alumni Field.

The Green and Gold outshot the Crusaders 23 to 17. Freshman Kaylah Walstad put in two for the Lions, while five different players added one goal each. Goalie Rebecca Halley recorded six saves while both Halley and freshman defender Haley Campbell picked up three groundballs apiece. Kelsey Burns showed her versatility causing two turnovers and being a factor on offense.

How it Happened
1H | The Crusaders opened up the scoring, netting their first goal just five minutes into the half. Three minutes later, a retaliation goal was scored by Abbie Ross to tie the game. Belmont Abbey went on a 4-0 run until Walstad had something to say about it. With only 45 seconds left in the first, Walstad added her second career goal to cut the lead before half time. | Belmont Abbey 5-2 | 

 2H | Belmont Abbey came out strong offensively, scoring two unanswered goals in the first 10 minutes to stretch its lead and adding another one with 15 minutes remaining. Five minutes after the Crusaders' three straight points, Jennifer Doyle attempted to ignite the Lions' offense as she put one in the back of the net. It was a quick turn around for the Crusaders as they put another away maintaining their lead. A Kelsey Burns goal only a minute later kept the Lions in the game. The Green and Gold finished strong as Walstad added her second goal followed by one from Allie Sheftall to end the game with a 3-0 run by the Lions. However the Lions were unable to finish their come-back bid as the host Crusaders took the game. | Belmont Abbey 9-6 |
