Saint Leo comes up short in battle of Lions at #4 Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Fourth-ranked Lindenwood University scored seven straight goals to open the game and went on to post a 19-3 win over visiting Saint Leo women's lacrosse, Saturday afternoon at Harlen C. Hunter Stadium.

Saint Leo (8-7) got on the scoreboard with 17:44 left in the first half, when senior Christina Minneci beat Lindenwood goalie Rachel Ortell to cut LU's lead to 7-1.

After three more Lindenwood goals, Minneci notched her second of the day with 12:20 left to play in the opening frame. Lindenwood recorded four more goals before the end of the half, and went into the halftime break with a 14-2 lead.

Lindenwood extended its lead to 19-2 in the second half, with Saint Leo's Allie Sheftall tacking on a final goal for the Green and Gold off an assist by Katie Larson with 1:42 remaining in the game.

Senior Brittany Millsap got the start in goal for Saint Leo, and recorded four saves while playing just down the road from her hometown of St. Louis, Mo. Sophomore Kaylyn Kearns came on midway through the second half to replace Millsap, and charted two saves.

Lindenwood's Ortell and Delaney Solomon combined to make six saves in the LU goal.

Allison Hurley and Melissa Menchella each scored three goals to pace Lindenwood offensively, with Hurley also getting credit for an assist. Kara Wendell also had a four-point day with two goals and two assists.

Lindsay Palmer recorded two goals and an assist for the Lindenwood Lions, while Cassie Stucklen, Maddi Ossello, and Morgan Judd each notched two goals. Three other players had one goal each.

Saint Leo closes out the regular season on Wednesday, April 22, when it hosts Florida Tech in a Sunshine State Conference matchup. The Lions' four seniors – Brittany Millsap, Christina Minneci, Joanna Chadwick, and Alix Murray – will be recognized during pre-game ceremonies.
