SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University women's lacrosse team earned 2014 Academic Honor Squad distinction from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). The list of programs honored by the IWLCA was unveiled Monday.
The award marked Saint Leo's first appearance on the IWLCA Academic Honor Squad list in the program's third year of play.
"I am extremely proud of the academic accomplishments the team achieved last year," said Lesley Graham, Saint Leo's head women's lacrosse coach. "As we continue to grow our program, the successes on the field and in the classroom are positive indications we are moving in the right direction."
The Lions were one of 45 NCAA Division II squad to receive the award, which goes to teams that posted a 3.00 or better GPA during the 2013-14 academic year. Nationally, a total of 254 programs across NCAA Divisions I, II, and III were recognized with the IWLCA Academic Honor Squad designation.
Saint Leo women's lacrosse posted a 10-7 overall record in 2014 – the most wins in the program's three-year history. The Lions begin championship competition in the Sunshine State Conference starting with the 2015 season.
