Women’s golf second after first round at South Super Regional

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo women's golf returned to the club house one stroke out of the lead with two individuals among the top four, after Monday's first round of the 2017 NCAA Division II South Super Regional at the Members Club at Woodcreek in Elgin, S.C.

The Lions fired a 309 (+21) in Monday's opening round at the par 72, 6114 yard Members Club course, right behind tournament Barry University with a 308 (+20).

West Georgia finished the day third on the leaderboard with a 311 (+23), while Montevallo was fourth with a 313 (+25).

Senior Marie Coors and junior Amanda Jakobsson were tied for third among individuals with a three-over 75 in the first round. The Saint Leo pair trail tournament leader Charlotte Puts from Barry by two shots, and are one stroke behind Lynn's Krissy Ortiz in second place.

Coors began the day with birdies on three of the first four holes and finished the front nine at one-under, before recording bogeys on four holes on the back nine. Jakobsson carded birdies at no. 6 and no. 17, and had five bogeys on the day to complete her round.

Freshman Izzy Lawrence shot a six-over 78 to finish among a nine-player group tied for 14th. Junior Vilde Eriksen finished her first round tied for 39th with a nine-over 81; her day was highlighted by an eagle on the par 5 no. 9 hole.

Junior Margine Arguello ended the day tied for 50th on the individual leaderboard with an 11-over 83.

Tuesday's second round will begin at 8:30 a.m., with the Saint Leo contingent beginning play at 9:30 a.m. Arguello will be first off at 9:30 a.m., followed by Eriksen at 9:40 a.m., Lawrence at 9:50 a.m., Jakobsson at 10:00 a.m., and Coors at 10:10 a.m.
