Women’s golf tied for third after Rd. 1 at SSC Championship

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Saint Leo freshman Izzy Lawrence carded a one-over 73 in Sunday's first round of the 2017 Sunshine State Conference Women's Golf Championship at the Country Club of Winter Haven, leading the Lions back to the clubhouse tied for third place.

Saint Leo is tied with Nova Southeastern at 295 (+7), five strokes back of tournament leader Florida Tech at 290 (+2). Barry University is second at 294 (+6).

Lawrence made par on 17 holes, with the only blemish on her scorecard coming at the par 4 no. 7 where she recorded a bogey.

Senior Marie Coors and juniors Amanda Jakobsson and Vilde Eriksen were all tied for 11th after the first round with a two-over 74.

Coors bogeyed three holes on the front nine, but came back to birdie the par 3 no. 12 and the par 5 no. 13. She carded another bogey at the par 4 no. 14, to go one-under on the back nine. Jakobsson had two bogeys and a birdie on both the front and back nines, recording her birdies on two par 5 holes – no. 9 and no. 11.

Eriksen had a rougher start to her day, recording a triple-bogey on the par 3 no. 2. However she settled in and shot par on 15 of the next 16 holes, and got a birdie at the par 5 no. 11.

Junior Margine Arguello finished her first round tied for 31st overall with an eight-over 80, with four bogeys on both the front and back nine.

Barry's Charlotte Puts and Florida Tech's Karolyne Shieh are tied atop the individual leaderboard with a two-under 70. Jamie Freedman (Nova Southeastern), Lexie Toth (Rollins), and Michelle Ruiz (Nova Southeastern) are tied for third at 71, while Florida Tech Guro Rambjoer is sixth with an even par 72.

Saint Leo tee times for Monday's second round are: 8:45 a.m. Margine Arguello, 8:54 a.m. Vilde Eriksen, 9:03 a.m. Amanda Jakobsson, 9:12 a.m. Marie Coors, and 9:21 a.m. Izzy Lawrence. All five Saint Leo golfers will tee off from at no. 1, playing with Nova Southeastern.
