Jakobsson and Coors go 1-2 at Steffens Invite; Lions capture title

DELAND, Fla. – A wire-to-wire lead for the Saint Leo women's golf team saw the Lions win the Babs Steffens Invitational by 18 strokes at the Victoria Hills Golf Course. The Lions finished with an 880 (+16) after a final round 290 (+2). Saint Leo junior Amanda Jakobsson jumped over teammate senior Marie Coors for first place during the last 18 holes.

The Lions led the tournament from the first round on Saturday through the final round Monday. Saint Leo finished at 880 (+16) with rounds of 298-292-290.

Jakobsson, who started the final 18 in second place, recorded six birdies during the final round to fire off a four-under 68. Coors, who dropped one spot in the final 18, tallied four birdies on the afternoon on her way to shooting a two-under 70, to finished one stroke back of Jakobsson. 

Jakobsson finished the tournament with a 212 (-4) after rounds of 73-71-68, while Coors ended with a 213 (-3) after her 74-69-70 tournament rounds.

Junior Vilde Eriksen tied for 15th after a final round 75 (+3). On the back nine, Eriksen finished one-under with two birdies for the day. Eriksen concluded the three-day tournament with a 227 (+11) after her 75 was added to her first and second round 76's.

Junior Margine Arguello finished in the top 30 after a final round 77 (+5) with four birdies. Arguello finished the Babs Steffen Invite with a 230 (+14) with rounds of 75-78-77.

Freshman Izzy Lawrence rounded out the starting five with a 36th place finish with a 233 (+17). Lawrence shot a final round 81 (+9) to go along with her first two rounds of 76-76.

In total, the Lions were second in the total number of birdies on the course with 39 throughout the 54-holes, where Coors and Jakobsson tied for second with 12 birdies apiece.

Saint Leo returns to the links on April 10-11 in Melbourne, Fla., when they compete at the Florida Tech Lady Panther Invitational.
