Rumbaugh paces women’s golf after 18 at Saint Leo Inv.

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University senior Sabrina Rumbaugh led a contingent of four Lions among the top 10 to position the Green and Gold in first place following Monday's first round of the 2016 Saint Leo Women's Golf Invitational, held at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club.

Saint Leo carded a one-under 287 over the first 18 holes to sit atop the team leaderboard. The Lions hold a five-stroke lead over second-place Lynn University with a 292 (+4).

Rumbaugh fired a one-under 71 and was among a group of five golfers tied for third on the individual leaderboard. After shooting one-over on the front nine, she recorded birdies on 12 and 15 on the back nine on Lake Jovita's par 72, 6133-yard North Course.

Senior Marie Coors and juniors Amanda Jakobsson and Vilde Eriksen all carded even par on the North Course and were tied for eighth on the leaderboard.

Coors had four birdies on the day with two each on both the front nine (no. 2 and no. 6) and the back nine (no. 11 and no. 16), while Eriksen (nos. 6, 11, 13) and Jakobsson (nos. 5, 14, 15) each carded three birdies in the first round.

Junior Margine Arguello rounded out the scoring five for Saint Leo with a five-over 77 to finish the round tied for 26th on the individual leaderboard.

Freshman Izzy Lawrence led a group of four Saint Leo players competing as individuals, shooting a three-over 75 and placing tied for 16th overall. Starting her round on the 11th hole, Lawrence bogeyed three of her eight holes to complete the back nine. However she found her stride when she came back to no. 1 to start the front nine, recording four birdies to go with three pars, a bogey, and a double bogey.

Sophomores Emma Duncan, Mao Young, and Alex Velez all completed their first round with a score of an eight-over 80, and were tied for 48th on the leaderboard. Duncan birdied her starting hole of no. 11, while Young carded birdies at no. 5 and no. 12. Velez finished the day with a birdie and two pars over her final three holes.

Lynn golfers Jenny Ayala and Krissy Ortiz are tied for the individual lead with a two-under 70, one stroke ahead of the third-place group of Rumbaugh, Franziska Bremm (West Georgia), Julia Kaeding (Mount Olive), Brittany LaPadula (Florida Tech), and Linn Weber (Flagler).

Trailing Saint Leo and Lynn on the team leaderboard on Flagler College and Barry University tied for third with a 300 (+12), with Florida Tech and Shorter University tied for fifth place with rounds of 304 (+16).

Tuesday's second round starts at 8:30 a.m. at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club North Course. Tee times for Saint Leo's golfers are as follows:
