Lions 9th After Opening Round of NCAA Super Regional

Coors finishes day one tied for 13th 

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University women's golf team opened first round play at the NCAA Division II Women's Golf South/Southeast Super Regional on Sunday, at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Dade City, and find themselves in ninth place after the first day of competition. The Lions shot a 319 in the opening round and are two strokes behind eighth place Armstrong Atlantic (317). 

Saint Leo, who is playing in its fourth NCAA Regional in the past five years, will resume play on Monday, May 5, with the first of five Lions' players teeing off for the second round at 8:50 a.m. 

Marie Coors shot the low round of the day for Saint Leo with a first round total of 76. Coors, who won the individual title at the Sunshine State Conference Tournament, finished the first day in a tie for 13th place. She is six strokes in back of the leader Daisy-May Kenny (70) of West Florida, and one stroke outside of the top-10. 

Clare Connolly shot a first round total of 80 which places her in a tie for 31st, and Lauren Shuford shares 37th place after shooting a day one total of 81. 

Rounding out Saint Leo's competitors is Lauren Petty who is in a tie for 39th place after shooting an 82, and Heather Petronis who shot an 88 and is in 49th place. 

Petronis will get things started for the Lions on Monday teeing off at 8:50 a.m. She will be followed by Petty (9 a.m.), Shuford (9:10 a.m.), Connolly (9:20 a.m.) and Coors (9:30 a.m.). 

The regional will conclude with third round action on Tuesday, May 6.
