Lions Set to Host 2014 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Super Regional No. 2

Saint Leo Welcomes Top Teams in South Region to Home Course at Lake Jovita

SAINT LEO, Fla. (May 3, 2014) -  Despite soggy weather conditions Saturday morning, practice rounds got under way in preparation for the 2014 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Super Regional tournament.  Saint Leo University serves as the host school for this year's South Region tournament, set to take place at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club May 4-6.

Nine teams from the South Region, along with four individuals, are slated to compete on one of the nation's premiere courses.  Lake Jovita's rolling hills and natural terrain make the course one of the most unique and beautiful courses in Florida, and provides some of the most challenging play in the region.

Participants will compete over the course of 54 holes on the par-72, 6120 yard Lake Jovita South Course for the right to advance to the 2014 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships to be held May 14-17, at Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, N.C.

The 12th-ranked Lions welcome eight other teams, and four individuals to Saint Leo, hosting a field full of some of the toughest competition within Division II.  The No. 1-ranked Lynn University Fighting Knights earned the highest seed, and top a list of seven total teams in attendance who rank within the latest Golf World/WGCA Coaches Poll top-10.  Barry University (No. 2), Florida Tech (No. 3), Rollins (No. 4), Nova Southeastern (No. 7), Flagler (No. 8), and West Florida (No. 9) all sit within the top teams, while Saint Leo (No. 12), Armstrong Atlantic (No. 15) round out the list of teams in attendance.

Along with the nine teams, the Lions welcome individual participants Emily Rymer (Florida Southern), Ashlii Thompson (UNC Pembroke), Elizabeth Swallow (King), and Elaine Wood (Montevallo).

Official play will begin at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, May 4, with one round of 18 holes.  The tournament will continue on Monday, May 5, with another round of 18, followed by the conclusion on Tuesday, May 6 with the final full round.  The top three teams along with the top three individuals from each regional will advance to the championships.
