No. 6 Lions Earn 9th in First Round of Saint Leo Invitational

SAINT LEO, Fla. – After the first 18 holes of the Saint Leo Invitational, the No. 6 Saint Leo women's golf team sits in ninth place of the 18-team field, with a first round score of 315 on the par-73 course.

The Lions were led by senior Lauren Shuford and freshman Marie Coors, who each posted a three-over score of 76. Because of the scoring in the field, the pair sit tied for 17th place.

Following closely behind Shuford and Coors was junior Clare Connolly, who shot an 81 on the day and sits tied for 46th.

Junior Lauren Petty placed fourth among her team members, shooting an 82 and tying for 52nd place among the 96-woman field

Rounding out the group was senior Heather Petronis, whose score of 93 puts her tied for 84th.

After the first round of play, a Sunshine State Conference foe leads the field, with Barry University placing first thanks to a 296 team score.

The individual leader of the day, Flagler's Marie Santacroce, shot a one-under 71 and contributed heavily to Flagler's second place finish.

The Lions, led by head coach Tommy Baker, have won their last two tournaments, and hope to gain some ground in the second and final round, tomorrow at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club.
