SUNSET BEACH, NC – The third-ranked Saint Leo women's golf team currently sits atop of the leaderboard after the first 18 holes of the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate are in the books. The Lions currently lead the 18-team field in the tournament contested at the Sea Trail Resort in North Carolina.
Marie Coors's 2-under-70, including a 33 on the front nine, leads the field by two strokes on the par-72, 5,810 yard course. An even-par effort for Lauren Shuford sees her second on the team and in the tournament as she sits two strokes behind Coors.
One stroke behind Shuford is Lauren Petty whose 1-over-73 puts her in fifth place, while a 3-over-75 has Clare Connelly sitting in 13th place overall in the tightly packed field. Rounding out the Lions' lineup is senior Heather Petronis who posted a 5-over-77 as she sits 23rd in the 93-player field.
The Lions lead the field by 11 strokes, with Limestone College in second with a first round 301. Third place is Mount Olive (305) while Erskine College is fourth (308).
The Lions will look to continue their great play tomorrow when they finish the second and final round of the tournament.
