Women's Golf Takes Home First Fall Tournament
SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – After a top finish in the first round of the Smokey Mountain Intercollegiate Invitational, the Saint Leo women's golf team took home the title as they finished the tournament with a second round score of 292 and a final tournament score of 591. The 36-hole score broke the Lions' previous record of 592.
Freshman Marie Coors came in the lead for the Lions program, finishing her first tournament with the green and gold in third place. Her score of 70 for the second round was a five-stroke improvement from yesterday's play and earned her a final score of one stroke over par.
Junior golfer Clare Connolly finished the day just three strokes over par with a score of 75, while junior Lauren Petty scored a 77, putting them both in a four-way tie for 12th place. Followed closely behind Connolly and Petty was senior Lauren Shuford, who fired two under par to earn her a 16th-place finish and was tied with Coors for the second-best score of the day.
Senior Heather Petronis rounded out the group with a finish of 11 strokes over par for the tournament. She finished in 21st place among 90 golfers from across the region.
The second-place program, Lee University, finished four strokes behind Saint Leo for the tournament.
The Saint Leo women's golf program will look to continue their excellent play on October 7th and 8th when they compete in the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate tournament in South Carolina.
